My Spiritual Journey
Greetings, my name is Samuel Jakob Kirschner. I’m a self-healer and developer of The b r e a z e. I was born in a displaced people’s camp in Germany. I was one year old In 1948, when my parents immigrated to the newly established state of Israel. I always felt like I have been here before, and that I came to learn, evolve and enjoy. While I always loved life, and had an incredible capacity to enjoy it, I also felt very sensitive to the pain of the world, a deep loss of myself and a strong connection to my soul. Like many seekers, I have weathered bouts of deep depression which spurred me to dig ever deeper to find the truth of my being and the meaning of my life. I feel that through surviving these depressions, unbearable pain and deep loss, I have discovered the breath and learned how to connect to the love in my soul. I believe that “We teach what we learn, and we learn what we teach.”
In 1975, a year after moving from Paris to New York, I was diagnosed with recurrent, severe anxiety and depression. Resistance to prescribed medication led me to explore Yoga, Qi-Gong, Kabalistic, Zen and Vipassana meditation as a means of self-healing. Through my work with AIDS patients in the 1980′s, I have witnessed firsthand the potent resilience of our inner joy, even in times of catastrophic events. The practice of mindfulness has taught me the power of the present moment, and meditative breathing techniques have led me to the source of healing, calm and joy within. I have discovered that at my core I am connected to all beings through the blessing of the breath of life.
Through it all, I have learned that we can connect to love and be calm and joyful, whatever is going on around us. Even in the midst of a storm, we can turn over our stress to the breath, and connect to flow of the present, and the love in our soul. At this moment in my journey, I feel blessed to share this approach with others. Moving ourselves from fear, stress and control to breath, heart and soul, we are helping the world to move toward more well being, calm and joy. We can be Artists of Living @ the pace of the breath, in a sacred manner and in celebration, moment by moment, breath by breath.
A couple of years ago, when I was in the midst of a depression episode, watching the earthquake in Haiti, I vowed that if I survived my depression I would build a sanctuary on on line that would serve as a place of refuge for people who experience the unbearable pain of anxiety & depression and feel isolated and suicidal – like I did. From that experience I have developed The B r e a z e, a five step practice of breathing and connecting to love and ease, offered in our on line sanctuary – The Gym 4 the Soul.
